Secretary Chu Meets With Algerian Oil Minister Chakib Khelil

Washington, DC - Today U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu met with Algerian Energy Minister Chakib Khelil.  The following is a statement from Department of Energy spokesperson Dan Leistikow:

"Today's meeting with an important U.S. trading partner was an opportunity to reaffirm the Obama Administration's commitment to setting our country on a new course -- leading the world toward clean, renewable energy sources that will create new green jobs and address the global climate crisis.

"Secretary Chu welcomed Algeria's own commitment to developing renewable energies and stressed that every nation has a stake in fighting global climate change.  The President's American Recovery and Reinvestment plan represents an immediate and major step forward in that effort - putting Americans back to work, saving families money on their energy bills and reducing our dependence on oil."
